We have a delightful choice of Castles and Historic Houses in our County, just a few are mentioned.
Lincolnshire offers many differing gardens, from the grand country house show piece to the lovely cottage nurseries.
An annual "Gardens and Nurseries" booklet will be available at your accommodation (also with interesting gardens).
Burghley House, near Stamford, is the largest and grandest house of the Elizabethan age, home to Lady Victoria Leatham well known as one of the experts on "the Antiques Roadshow".
Belton House, A National Trust property, an elegant Restoration Country House, built in 1685, with formal Dutch and Italian Gardens.
Lincoln Castle dating back to William the Conqueror, housing one of only four Magna Carta.
Tattershall Castle. Another National Trust property. Dramatic red brick Medieval Tower, climb 150 steps to the battlements, the view is worth it.
Gunby Hall, a few miles from Somersby, Tennyson's "Haunt of Ancient Peace". A William and Mary National Trust house with wonderful gardens.
Bolingbroke Castle, near Spilsby, built in 1220. Once owned by John of Gaunt, the birthplace of HenryIV , (Henry Bolingbroke). Now an English Heritage site.Thornton Abbey Gate House, in North Lincolnshire is one of the best surviving Monastic gatehouses. Magnificent even 500 years later.
Harlaxton Manor. Harlaxton Manor was built in the 1830s for Gregory Gregory, a wealthy Nottinghamshire businessman, to replace the original Elizabethan Manor House in Harlaxton Village.
Gainsborough Old Hall, setting for the novel "The Mill on the Floss". One of the most impressive Manor Houses in the country.
Doddington Hall and Gardens, near Lincoln. A gracious Elizabethan Mansion. Romantic walled gardens laid out with topiary, glorious borders, boxed edged parterres and rambling roses. Spring bulbs a speciality.
Grimsthorpe Castle and Gardens, near Bourne. A stately home with beautiful contents, set in 15 acres of formal and woodland gardens.
Choice plants of Spilsby. Here you can find a wide range of unusual and more sort after perennials in a show garden setting.
Hall Farm Nurseries, Harpswell. A very large range of interesting shrubs, herbaceous, perennials and old fashioned roses which can be seen growing in a large and lovely garden. Great for inspiration.
